Landscape Fabric
Laying landscape fabric in your garden is an ecological way to prevent weeds from growing while still allowing moisture and nutrients to enter in the soil. This synthetic material can be used under decks, along walkways and around trees and shrubs to prevent weeds from uncontrolled growth. Don't worry about existing plants suffering from the ground cover. Instead, make holes in the fabric to fit around your plants so growth is not inhibited. After laying the fabric and making the necessary adjustment for plants and shrubs it is important to anchor the material with U-shaped metal pins into the ground. Because the fabric is not natural to the environment, disguise it with 1-2 inches of stones, mulch, tree bark chips or other decor in landscaped areas. It serves also to keep newly planted seeds from blowing or washing away with rainfall and heavy winds until they begin to grow on their own. Fabrics are available in different colors but most commonly found in black or earth tone to absorb the heat and keep the soil moist. |
